So here’s some more fun news due to the pandemic; or more accurately, due to what we did to ourselves because we were afraid of catching a cold. Amazingly, I STILL see people walking around with masks on…even outside. That's just sad and we are surely doomed. We are both weak of mind and weak of body. If we don’t consume ourselves (literally), the Chinese will. But then again, maybe that’s been the plan all along…
From ABC News (my bold):
“New research found that obesity in the U.S. military surged during the pandemic. In the Army alone, nearly 10,000 active duty soldiers developed obesity between February 2019 and June 2021, pushing the rate to nearly a quarter of the troops studied. Increases were seen in the U.S. Navy and the Marines, too…there’s no sign that the trend is ending, underscoring longstanding concerns about the readiness of America’s fighting forces…Military leaders have been warning about the impact of obesity on the U.S. military for more than a decade, but the lingering pandemic effects highlight the need for urgent action,”
Just exactly how in the HELL do “active” duty soldiers (I guess I use that term loosely) get fat? 25% of our military troops are OBESE? Oh wait, “military leaders” have been “warning” about this for “more than a decade”. Who exactly have these “leaders” been warning? Aren’t they the ones who should have been warned about this and taken some action? Oh wait, they did (or Congress did; because that always ends well). They watered down the physical fitness tests and are eying easing the body fat composition requirements. Sweet.
And by the way, you don’t “develop obesity”, you MAKE YOURSELF obese. It’s not some mysterious process that “develops” like a stye on your eyelid.
“Early pandemic lockdowns, endless hours on his laptop and heightened stress led Murillo, 27, to reach for cookies and chips in the barracks at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Gyms were closed, organized exercise was out and Murillo's motivation to work out on his own was low…'I could notice it,' said Murillo, who is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighed as much as 192 pounds. 'The uniform was tighter.'”
How about we start with banning “cookies and chips” in the barracks? Is that too mean in order to maintain readiness in young men and women whose job is to defend our nation, kill people, and break things? Is that “triggering”? Does General Milley now also need to “learn about” “safe spaces”?
And of course, along with the rest of America, when the geniuses who run (notice “run” is just one small letter away from “ruin”) our lives locked us in our houses and shut down the gyms (but kept the liquor stores, strip clubs and pot shops open) a great deal of Americans fell apart even more than they had already been doing. “…5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighed as much as 192"?? You gotta work to make that happen. No joke man!
So this is just another pebble in the avalanche of the shit-storm that will be the result of our response to a virus with the same lethality (or even less) as the common seasonal flu. Good job us! DO NOT forget what our overlords did to us because as surely as we're getting fatter and sicker by the day, they'll be back to tell us what's "good for us" real soon.
Have I mentioned nobody is coming to save you? It’s your life, you better start acting like it.
