NYC REQUIRING VACCINE PASSPORTS

8/3/21

So today the New York Times reports that (caps mine for emphasis) “New York City will become the first U.S. city to REQUIRE PROOF OF VACCINATION for a variety of activities for workers and customers — indoor dining, gyms and performances — TO PUT PRESSURE on people to get vaccinated…In New York City, PROOF of vaccination will be REQUIRED and there will be NO TESTING OPTION.”

Mayor de Blasio says “If you WANT TO PARTICIPATE in our society fully, you’ve GOT to get vaccinated…And that is the key to PROTECTING people, and the key to our recovery.”

State Senator James Sanders Jr. praised the mayor for stepping up, saying “There is a madness afoot here, sir, and ONLY GOVERNMENT can make a difference,”

First of all, if you agree with this policy you have lost your mind. If you cannot recognize the destruction of your civil liberties right in front of your own eyes then you are lost. You are, as an American however, entitled to be off your rocker. Many Americans have exercised that right quite vigorously over the last year and there is apparently no end in sight. But before you line up to get your “papers”, let’s take a look at the “necessity” for such a measure. I realize the actual data doesn’t matter to many as they really believe they “know” something about this pandemic because some “expert” told them so, but I keep trying to appeal to whatever is left of the rational part of someone’s brain.

As of this writing (2:20pm on August 3, 2021), the daily “case” average in NYC (per the New York Times) is 1,275. That’s a population “case” rate for NYC of 0.015%, or fifteen one-thousandths of one percent. And as I have repeatedly cautioned, a “case” does not a sick person make. But if fifteen one-thousandths of one percent is too risky for you, the hospitalization rate stands at only about 0.007% or seven one-thousandths of one percent. If that’s still too scary for you, the daily deaths average from COVID in New York City stands at 4.7; that’s a population fatality rate of 0.00006% or SIX ONE HUNDRED-THOUSANDTHS OF ONE PERCENT. And by the way, fully 88% of all deaths attributed to COVID in New York City have been in people over age 65. Those over 65 used to famously (and rightly) be the “at risk” population. Remember when we had to destroy our jobs and our kids to save Grandma? Now I guess the “at risk” group refers to everybody. How’d that happen exactly? And where is the data to support that supposition? And anyone who has wanted to get vaccinated surely is by now, so why the mandate? Below the age of 65 you have about 3,300 deaths in New York City in over a year and a half. And most of those deaths were in compromised people. For most under age 65 the vaccine will provide zero benefit (you cannot provide much benefit to someone who is already at near-zero risk for something to begin with), but certainly if someone wants the vaccine they should by all means get it. But why should a young, healthy person who wants to go see a Broadway play (or work at a restaurant) be forced to take a drug he or she does not want to take in order to “participate in our society”?

If the answer is “To protect them from the evil coronavirus”, they clearly do not need protecting from a 0.00006% risk. If the answer is “To protect others”, those others can get all the vaccinations they want, nobody is stopping them. You can’t try to coerce me to get vaccinated by telling me “It’s time for people to see vaccination as LITERALLY NECESSARY to living a good and full and healthy life,” as de Blasio did without explaining the science behind that absurd statement. And I don't think de Blasio really understands the meaning of "literally" but whatever. If I have to get vaccinated to protect other vaccinated people (which is clearly the idea here), then you’re saying the vaccine doesn’t work to protect those who have it, and if you’re telling me I have to get vaccinated to protect myself, you just told me the vaccine doesn’t work to do that and that’s why the non-vaccinated need to get vaccinated – to protect the vaccinated. If the reason I should get vaccinated is to protect the “stupid people” who don’t want to get vaccinated, well that’s their CHOICE and I shouldn’t have an assault launched against my sacrosanct right to personal autonomy to “save” someone else from themselves because there is something they don’t want to do, all in the name of “protecting” us all from a 0.00006% risk. THIS IS INSANITY.

And if that last quote above by State Senator James Sanders Jr. doesn’t send chills down your spine, then you are probably not reading this anyway so telling you to “wake up” would be fruitless. But for anyone with any intellectual curiosity, you are surrendering your civil rights to a boogeyman. Sanders is right, there is “madness afoot here”, it’s just not what he thinks it is. But if you are willing to give up your right to move about as a free American citizen; if you are more than happy (many will actually celebrate it) to have to “show your papers” in pursuit of protecting your precious “safety” from a six one hundred-thousandths chance of dying, you deserve to be “taken care of” by Bill de Blasio and big brother like the scared little lamb that you are. Congratulations, you don’t have to take responsibility for your own health destiny, just let GOVERNMENT use their “key to PROTECTING people, and the key to our recovery” and all will be well.

By the way, about 34% of NYC adults are not vaccinated, and while we all “know” we’re experiencing a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” (read my last piece for some actual data), I’m pretty sure there aren’t too many stupid southern white supremacists in that group so maybe what we all think we “know” about this pandemic (including vaccination rates) isn’t quite so. You are being sold a narrative that is NOT TRUE. Stop listening to the “experts”, they do not have your best interests at heart. Please think about what you’re doing…or maybe not, just follow the yellow brick road.
