To Whom It May Concern:
As a health educator, I have taught about stress and ways to deal with stress for years. The topic is in every level of health curriculum and each year the students may be faced with different types of stressors yet some remain constant.
While teaching Dynamics of Health Care, I realized students don’t deal with the causes of the stress and are always looking for a quick fix. Many try to ignore the feelings, cry, yell or go to sleep only to find the stressor still exists and needs to be dealt with.
On several occasions I have invited Mrs. Kerri Bacall to come in as a guest speaker. She deals with holistic health to treat the mind and body and spirit. She speaks to the class on ways to relieve the tension through meditation and guided imagery. As part of this class, students need to shadow different health care professionals. Mrs. Bacall has always welcomed our students to further their knowledge of holistic health by attending her classes. My students have returned to school with so much excitement from the classes they have observed and have asked to do more.
Obviously there is not enough time in every class to de-stress. I believe all students would benefit from taking a course from Mrs. Bacall. Though we say we know what to do to relieve stress, many of us do more damage to our bodies because we tend to ignore rather than deal.
