ANOTHER PANIC PORN ALERT!
“What We Have Right Now Are Essentially 3 New Yorks,”
So this one is from about a month ago but I thought it was important to post it and discuss the endless stream of apocalyptic pronouncements since this thing started (can you say 2.2 million dead?) that have largely influenced how we view the pandemic. And more importantly, how as each one has been shown to be a gross overestimate of what actually happens, nobody ever apologizes or takes responsibility for fanning the flames of panic and fear. Free Hint: anytime you read something with any of the magic words like “could, would, will, may, modeled, predicted” and the suchlike, make sure you have some salt nearby.
This is a headline of something Dr. Birx said on the Today Show back on July 24th in which she referred to Florida, Texas, and California as the next sites of the end of the world. That week, California had passed NY with the most “cases” in the country at more than 400,000. Well today, California has over 700,000 cases, Texas has about 640,000 and Florida is at about 625,000. New York stands at 465,000 which means the other three states have between 35% and 50% more “cases” than New York BUT each of those states has only about 35% - 40% of the deaths. That is, if those states were the next “New Yorks” they would each now have about 50,0000 deaths but they’re down around 1/4 of that number. The same is true for a comparison with New Jersey where each to these states has more than three times the NJ case number but only about 75% of the deaths. How do you explain that? More importantly, this is an example of the constant barrage of black plague nonsense that we have been bathing in for nearly six months (that’s why you’re so scared and “sure” this is really, really bad). And for anyone who would argue that some mitigation action (lockdown, masks, social distancing) explains the difference, that is, on its face provably false as the cases skyrocketed but the deaths did not. Unless you believe masks can selectively screen out the virus particles that will actually kill you, you are left with three possible explanations.
1 – people in NY and NJ are sicker and weaker than other people around the country. 2 – as the virus spreads across the country it is weakening. 3 – more testing equals more cases. While 1 and 2 might actually have some influence over the numbers (which would be good news for the country), number 3 is the obvious answer. So the question is, why do we continue to see blaring headlines about “cases” (as we are currently seeing concerning colleges) and how we’re in so much trouble? How many articles have you seen warning of the inevitable “second wave” coming? It’s a valid question to ask.
UPDATE ON LAST PANIC PORN ALERT!
My last alert was about the “terrifying” numbers at the University of Alabama where the headline screamed that over 1,000 students had tested positive for coronavirus! But if one simply read a few paragraphs in you would see no students had been hospitalized. I have since come across this story which decries “More than 1,200 students test positive for COVID-19 at major university” with a subtitle "The rise we've seen in recent days is unacceptable." The article is full of the usual flotsam and jetsam about how this could get out of control and the vilification of these college kids who are just trying to live a normal life and have some fun. Nowhere do they mention that no kids are in the hospital. I wonder why. But more importantly, this article states “In addition to the University of Alabama, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Central Florida are among the schools reporting spikes in COVID-19 infections among students and staff. I looked at those schools and found the following: At UNC, there have been about 650 cases found in August as kids return to campus (out of about 30,000 students). No mention anywhere as to how many, if any kids were in the hospital, but considering there are only 971 people hospitalized in the whole state for covid (out of 10 million people), my guess is the number is zero. Also, I’m quite certain if there were any students in the hospital, that would be the headline. Below is Notre Dame’s “spike” (click on graphic): ‘Nuff said.
Also below are the numbers for the University of Central Florida: 20 cases in the month of August. You can decide for yourself if that’s a “spike”. And while UCF does not report hospitalizations, they state “The vast majority of UCF’s cases have involved students who are either asymptomatic or experienced only minor symptoms.”
The point is, you read these things and never question the veracity or validity. You just get flooded with more PANIC PORN. If you just peek behind the curtain…never mind, pay no attention to that man…
