A BIG DAY FOR THE PANIC PORN PURVEYORS

A BIG DAY FOR THE PANIC PORN PURVEYORS

4/28/21

So you may be aware of the most recent brouhaha that broke today over the comments of one Joe Rogan, a fairly popular podcaster who had the temerity to opine the following on his very own show.

"Yeah, I think for the most part it’s safe to get vaccinated. I do, I do. But, if you’re like 21 years old, and you say to me ‘Should I get vaccinated?’ I go ‘No, are you healthy?’ Are you a healthy person? Like, look, don't do anything stupid, but you should take care of yourself. You should - if you're a healthy person, and you're exercising all the time, and you're young, and you're eating well, like, I don't think you need to worry about this."

WOW!!! I’m shocked he’s still allowed to walk the earth. Of course in response to this entirely reasonable line of thinking the usual suspects donned their battle gear and attacked.

First, White House communications director Kate Bedingfield warned Americans against taking medical advice from Joe Rogan saying “"I guess my first question would be, did Joe Rogan become a medical doctor while we weren't looking?” Isn’t that the cutest thing? Ignorance and arrogance is a very dangerous combination.

Then you had the liar Fauci chime in with calling Rogan's comments "incorrect" and urging young people to get vaccinated. "You're talking about yourself in a vacuum. You're worried about yourself and the likelihood and that you're not going to get any symptoms. But you can get infected, and will get infected, if you put yourself at risk and even if you don't have any symptoms, you are propagating the outbreak." So now just living your life in America and not getting vaccinated is “putting yourself at risk”? And how does he know an asymptomatic person is “propagating the outbreak”? If I’m asymptomatically infected and unknowingly spread the virus to another person, how could anyone possibly know that? I know we've been told that happens all the time, but really, how could anyone possibly know I spread the virus to someone else if I don't even know I have it to begin with? And haven’t we been told ad nauseam that you still have to wear a mask and social distance even after being “fully vaccinated” because you could still become infected and spread the virus to someone’s grandma? So how exactly are the unvaccinated “propagating the outbreak” any differently than the fully vaccinated?

And then you had the piece on CNN (surprised?) which starts out with the PANIC PORN purveyor stating that Joe Rogan is “giving air to anti-vaccine narratives”. You just read above what Joe said. Does that qualify as “anti-vaccine” or is it just one man’s (justifiable and entirely reasonable) opinion? So now in America, Land of the Free, you’re not allowed to state your opinion without being vilified. Cool. The host then brings on another “expert” to put Joe in his place, because she says, “we really need to”. This “expert” named Dr. Jonathan Reiner (of course a big shot) says “Well Joe Rogan is wrong.” and he’s “hoping that he was just trolling for new subscribers.”  He then goes on to spout some numbers which would prove to any Neanderthal (shout out Texas and Mississippi) smart enough to work a TV remote just how stupid Rogan really is. These numbers of course caught my ear. If you’ve been reading my propaganda over the past year, you’ll know I’m all about the numbers. Some might even call it SCIENCE AND DATA. This genius cites some very interesting statistics. He states “what we know is that over the last two months particularly with the new UK variant…this virus has been infecting and hospitalizing young people…hospitalizations for folks between 18 and 49 are up 50% in the last couple of months…almost 2500 people under the age of 30 in the United States have died from this.” Well there you go, case closed. Cancel Joe Rogan and roll up your sleeve. But let’s take a closer look, shall we?

First, the piece starts out talking about how stupid, evil Joe Rogan was giving dangerous advice to 21 year olds. Then this obviously very qualified doctor who is clearly driving in his lane (where people like me just as clearly don’t belong) cites statistics for people 18 to 49. 18 to 49? Rogan was talking about a 21 year old. Since when are 21 year olds considered the same “young people” as 49 year olds?  Maybe Mitch, Frank, Bernard and the other guys from Lambda Epsilon Omega (shout out Old School) but I’m pretty sure no 49 year old considers themselves in the same group as 21 year olds and I’m pretty certain 21 year olds don’t have quite the same experience with this virus as 49 year olds (although 49 year olds have nothing to worry about from the coronavirus either). But do you see what he did there? In response to Rogan’s comment on a 21 year old, the good doctor spouted statistics that do not apply to the group in question. Most people wouldn’t notice that and would then “know” how wrong Rogan was. Interestingly, the CDC used to break their COVID numbers into smaller age increments, say every five or ten years. Now it’s 18-49. I wonder why? Anyway, I digress.

But the “expert” is in fact mostly correct in his assertions. Over the last two months or so, hospitalizations for “young people” (again 18-49) are up about 50%. During the week of March 6th there were 559 people 18-49 in the hospital with COVID. That number has risen over the last several weeks to 579, 657, 751, 923, 1093, and then a drop as of the week of April 17th to 772 (last week of available data) which is actually about 38% more than 559, not 50% because you know, math. While a “50%” increase in the hospitalization of “young people” may sound alarming (exactly as it is intended to be) as I have said before, twice zero is still zero. There are about 125,000,000 Americans between 18 and 49 and 772 of those Americans hospitalized gives you a population hospitalization rate of 0.0006%. That’s six ten-thousandths of one percent. Really? If you’re worried about six ten-thousandths of one percent, you have too much time on your hands. Notice they never refer to the hospitalizations (or deaths) in these terms do they? Six ten-thousandths of one percent is not nearly as scary as a “50%” increase! Stop watching CNN and get outside in the sunshine.

As to the “almost 2500 people under the age of 30” dead is concerned, again technically correct. That is about the number under the heading “All Deaths involving COVID-19”. That’s about 2500 deaths out of about 125,000,000 people. A population fatality rate of 0.002% or two one-thousandths of one percent. And remember, that’s people up to 30, not 21. The number of deaths from newborn to age 17 is 266 (population fatality rate of 0.0003% or three ten-thousandths of one percent). And again that figure of about 2,500 is “All Deaths involving COVID-19”. That includes accidents, suicides, murders, cancers, and anything else from which a person might die who might have also by the way been infected with the coronavirus. The stat for “Deaths involving COVID-19 and Pneumonia” (a more precise measure of COVID responsibility) is at about only 960 under age 30 and only 49 for age newborn to 17. So there’s that. Please keep this in mind whenever you hear an “expert” or worse yet a talking head spout “facts” meant to scare you. Or better yet, just stop listening to the “experts” altogether.
