Half may die…in which half will you be?

Half may die…in which half will you be?

A recent report (click here) detailed the discovery of a new antibiotic-resistant superbug found in the US for the first time. The story goes on to mention the nightmare scenario that as many as half of all people infected by antibiotic-resistant bacteria could die from their illness. HALF! A bigger problem might be that as pressure mounts to bring new and stronger antibiotics to market (the strongest ones already have to be administered in a hospital because of toxicity issues – how much stronger can they get?) the speed with which these new drugs are approved (and the inevitable side effects that will accompany them) will prove more harmful than the bugs themselves. The sentiment that “The medicine cabinet is empty for some patients” is what has led to this precipice and we MUST turn our attention away from finding more and more toxic substances to poison our bodies with and instead look towards strengthening the body and its immune capacity. The human body (and the innate intelligence that lies within) is capable of defending itself against any disease process…any. The question is, why might half the people die from these coming superbug infections and half won’t.  The answer is simple. Some people’s immune system functions better than other’s. If you’re interested in actually improving your health and strengthening your immune system, and not just taking drugs to suppress symptoms, you must become proactive. But how? If only there were natural approaches to improving one’s health and wellness…oh wait.

Chiropractic care does not just address sore backs or stiff necks; it helps your nervous system function better, which in turn can help your immune system work better. That’s actually why Chiropractors are known as “back doctors”, because we work on the nervous system and that’s where the nervous system is – the spine. Understanding proper nutrition and taking needed whole food supplements feeds the body the basic materials it needs to function at its best, for without a proper supply of vitamins and minerals, the body can never function optimally (if you buy a Ferrari but put regular gas in it, it will never run right). Therapeutic Massage is not only for relaxation and feeling great, but it has also been shown to help improve immune system function and reduce stress markers in the body. Meditation and Reiki Healing quiet the mind and calm the spirit so the body can focus on its one true purpose; getting and staying healthy. Yoga has similar aims with the added benefit of strengthening the physical body. All of these modalities work towards keeping the body functioning at its best. When the body is functioning properly, the need for medical intervention (drugs and surgery) is greatly diminished, if not completely eliminated. Stay tuned for a blog detailing the absolute need to stop looking for “cures” outside the body.

By the way, where do you think these “superbugs” came from? They are our own special Frankenstein’s Monster. We’ve created them. The bugs will always stay ahead of the drugs. Always. In 1945 we used about 200 million pounds of pesticides on our crops, by the year 2000 that number jumped to 5.1 BILLION          pounds!! And what did we get for all that poison? Today some 500 different bugs are resistant to these pesticides.  Nature will always win. We’re already at the point where the drug used to control a superbug infection could just as easily kill the patient. The choice is yours, in which half do you want to be?
